A former Civil Air Patrol cadet of the Hernando County Composite Squadron spoke to about 40 cadets and senior members Aug. 9 and mentioned how his Civil Air Patrol expertise has ready him for his Navy profession.
The Hernando Squadron, primarily based in Brooksville, has seven Citrus County cadets and is the closest CAP squadron to Citrus County.
In accordance with a press launch, Ensign Sean Skinner instructed the cadets, ““Getting your friends to have the ability to hearken to you is one thing that is very laborious. Studying to steer others — that’s the final problem of being a cadet.
“It is laborious to do, however you study to hold your self professionally. You learn to use your voice, find out how to converse, the way you deal with individuals, and the way you take care of individuals in a management function,” Skinner stated.

Skinner is assigned to Coaching Air Wing 4 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and has participated in ROTC, Officer Candidate College, and Navy flight faculty. He has a political science diploma from the College of South Florida.
As a cadet with the Hernando squadron from 2008-15, he rose via the ranks, attaining the place of Cadet Captain.
The Civil Air Patrol provides alternatives to find out about flight, house flight, science, know-how, search and rescue, and catastrophe response. There are reductions for cadets in search of flight coaching and a personal pilot’s license. Scholarships can be found in a number of areas.
