CHICO — Gamers of all of the kinds won’t find a way to resist the Wildcat that is new Gaming at Chico State’s Whitney Hall.
The lobby, which was paid for by Chico State Recreational Sports, features video games, PC games, board games and even a vintage Pac Man game. Students and staff showed up to test out the lobby for the opening that is grand. Food and drinks were provided outside as well as the available room was filled with happy chatter as people tested out the games.
The lobby officially opens Sept. 13. The Chico State Gaming Club will meet at the also lobby.
Servando Melendrez, a freshman at Chico State, along with his friend, Chico State freshman Nico Felix, enjoyed played the pc game Valorant on
“It’s thursday very strategic,” Melendrez said. “It’s team based and intense.”
Junior Brad Farris played Call of Duty: War Zone on a computer.
“It’s very strategic and fun,” Farris said. “It’s fun to play with friends. It’s engaging and fast paced.”
Farris said he is into first person shooter games and has been playing the Call of Duty franchise for a time that is long
“It’s very unique,” he said.
A ribbon cutting was held to officially open the gaming lobby as well as a staff that is few gave excited speeches about the opening.
“I’m a wannabe gamer,” said Chico State President Gayle Hutchinson. “I have a Twitch account. If I didn’t work so much, I’d be spending my life gaming.”
Hutchinson said gaming helps people in many ways.
“Gaming is so important for recreation and learning skills that are technical” Hutchinson said. “And it is vital for individuals to understand who will be going into computer science as well as other fields that are related*)Freshman Kadence Simmons will be working at the desk that is front of gaming lobby when it opens.
“I Love this available room,” said Simmons. “They designed it so well. I’m very excited for the available room to open up. Lots Of People have already been looking forward to this.”
The plan for the gaming lobby was $100,000 and was completed under budget at around $97,000, said Chico State Director of Recreational Sports Kendall Ross. The cash was funded because of the fees that are recreational students pay along with their tuition.
The Wildcat Gaming Lobby will be tuesdays that are open Fridays from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. All students that are undergrad all staff members may use the lobby.
