Upon picking right on up the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, one of several things I happened to be really getting excited about was testing out gaming that is mobile. I had dreams of playing my favorite games across the 7.6-inch display that is main with 120Hz smoothness and excellent performance through the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. Unfortunately, the thing I instead encountered was disappointment.
That’s why i am here to warn you yourself a Galaxy Z Fold 4 because of its perceived gaming abilities if you were considering buying. While the ingredients are there in theory, Samsung’s larger foldable isn’t ready to be one of the best gaming phones.
The problem stems from the fact that the display that is inner a 21.6:18 aspect ratio, that will be almost a square. Which is visibly quite not the same as average displays that are smartphone which tend to offer a widescreen-style 19:9 ratio, and which games are primarily designed for.
You can see how this affects things in these screenshots of Genshin Impact, taken on the display that is inner of Galaxy Z Fold 4 as well as the Honor 70. The zoomed-in appearance of the Z Fold 4 leads to a far more limited field of view, that could be changed regarding the fly but regardless of how wide you’ve got your camera put up, you are less likely to want to see danger from the sides for the screen than for a traditional display that is smartphone.
The unusual shape of the Z Fold 4 can also make animations look weird. Take for instance in Apex Legends, when you activate Octane’s Stim ability. Because of the taller aspect ratio of the Z Fold 4, the stim (power up) floats in mid-air rather than appearing to latch onto Octane’s mask. That’s hardly a big deal but one that undermines the battle royale that is otherwise well-polished.
On the other side, the height that is increased inadvertently prove an unfair advantage for players. You can see more above and {below you on the Z Fold 4 than a regular display, which will certainly lead to some lively discussion if you use that to your advantage against other nearby players.

None for the games I attempted games are unplayable from the Z Fold 4, plus some other titles I do not play, such as for instance League of Legends: Wild Rift, appear to look fine. However the inconsistency means i will not be turning back again to the Z Fold time that is next fancy a mobile gaming session.
